Step Into the Future of Sustainable Farming with the KOA Farms Ohana
Are you ready to dive hands-first into the next generation of sustainable agriculture? KOA Farms is actively looking for passionate agriculture and aquaculture enthusiasts to join our living-learning farm family.
Led by aquatic biologist and veteran farmer Donald “Don Taro” Heacock, our immersive internship program bridges ancient Hawaiian ahupuaʻa land stewardship with modern ecological design. As an intern, you won’t just study sustainable agriculture—you will live it.
Hands-On Skills You’ll Gain:
- Integrated Aquaculture & Agriculture: Master traditional loko iʻa kalo (tilapia and taro) pondfield production within a restored watershed.
- Multipurpose Animal Husbandry: Work directly with Hawaiʻi’s unique dairy water buffalo herd for rotational grazing, raw dairy production, and gentle draft power.
- Tropical Agroforestry & Horticulture: Cultivate high-biodiversity orchards—including 23 varieties of avocado, breadfruit, cacao, and construction-grade bamboo.
- Farm-to-Table Systems: Participate in community-supported agriculture (CSA), raw dairy processing, and local agritourism.
Schedules, farm openings, and seasonal events shift throughout the year. Fill out our internship request form to introduce yourself, share your passion, and explore upcoming internship positions. Let’s grow the future of Hawaiʻi’s food security together!
